John Milton Pettway, age 76, died peacefully at home in Vicksburg Monday, May 2, 2016.

He was born July 4, 1939, in Edwards. He retired from the Vicksburg National Military Park as an equipment operator.  He had been a mechanic all of his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Echoals Pettway and Madie Levonya Worthy Pettway; and sister, Bobbie Faye Brent.

He is survived by his daughter, Marsha Pettway Brown (Cliff) of Clinton; and his son, Eric Pettway (Angela) of Vicksburg and special friend Charlene Short of Vicksburg.

He has four grandchildren, Taylor Shirley, Nicholas Shirley, Chloe Pettway and Hayden Brown. He leaves four siblings,Doris Tart, Carl Pettway, Raymond Pettway and Carolyn Redditt, and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Redditt, Danny Chester, Jimmy Chester, Bobby Raney, Jesse Dwiggins and Lester Pettway.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 6, 2016, at Glenwood Funeral Home with Brother George Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
