Charles E. Stevens

Charles E. Stevens died Friday, May 6, 2016, in the Merit Health River Region Medical Center. He was 92.

Mr. Stevens was born in Vicksburg to the late Charles A. and Gladys Emerson Stevens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June S. Stevens; two brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by his son, Alvin W. “Bill” Stevens of Jackson; his sister, Earlene Alexander of Eagle Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Stevens was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the U.S. Government and the Mississippi National Guard. He was a member of the Steven’s Masonic Lodge #0121, a member of the VFW, American Legion, was a life member of the 168th Hunting Club and a member of the Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitchell Cochran, pastor of Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be noon Tuesday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church, 335 Oak Ridge Rd., Vicksburg, MS 39183.

Pallbearers will be Ted Long, John Barnes, Steven Alexander, Donnie Gordon, John Oakes and Robert Alexander.
