Recent University of Alabama graduate Sarah Mahan joined The Vicksburg Post as a staff writer on Wednesday.
Mahan received a bachelor’s degree in communication from Alabama earlier this month. She is a 2012 graduate of John T. Morgan Academy in Selma, Ala.
“We are delighted Mahan agreed to join our news staff at The Vicksburg Post. She is a standout among this year’s graduates in her field and we look forward to all she will contribute to our newspaper and Vicksburg Living magazine and the Vicksburg community,” said Jan Griffey, editor of The Vicksburg Post.
While attending UA, Mahan interned for The Selma Times-Journal the summer after her freshman year and worked as an editorial assistant for the Alabama Alumni Magazine during her junior and senior years.
While in Selma, she worked with Tim Reeves, publisher of The Vicksburg Post and president of Vicksburg Newsmedia LLC, who at the time was leading the newsroom in Selma.
Mahan was also involved in UA’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, serving as its president her senior year, and held several leadership positions with Alabama Action, a UA Honors College service learning project.
“I can think of no better place to begin my career than here in Vicksburg, and I am looking forward to using my journalism degree to serve this city’s residents,” Mahan said. “I have a lot of learning to do, and am looking forward to getting started.”
