Frank Maxwell and Greg Hogue faded a bit after their blistering start to the Bud Light 2-Man Scramble, but not enough to lose their grip on the lead.
Maxwell and Hogue shot a 66 in Sunday’s final round to finish with a two-day total of 126, and hung on to win the tournament at Clear Creek Golf Course by one stroke.
Shawn Kurtz and Judd Mims finished second, with a total of 127. They were six strokes back entering the final round, but had the lowest score of the day Sunday with a 61.
Jerry Montgomery and James Comans finished third in the championship flight. They shot 63 on Sunday and finished at 129 for the tournament.
Maxwell and Hogue shot 60 on Saturday for the low round of the tournament, and needed every bit of it. They took a five-shot lead into Sunday, but 20 other teams were within 11 shots of the lead — not an insurmountable total in the scramble format.
Nine teams finished within 11 shots of the leaders, and six of the 18 teams in the championship and first flights improved on their first-round scores.
Maxwell and Hogue won $600 in pro shop merchandise for the victory in the tournament. Kurtz and Mims got $300 for second place, and Montgomery and Comans got $200.
Other flight winners received the same amounts.
Tim and Cameron Curtis won the first flight with a two-round total of 136. Jeremy and Jerry Self shot 137 and won the second flight, while Don Lagrone and Jay Prince were the third flight winners with a total of 141.
Gerald Mims and Ed Mullens won the fourth flight with a 148.
A total of 96 golfers participated in the tournament, which is the biggest of the year at Clear Creek.
