To the editor:
On May 14, the letter carriers along with other employees of the Vicksburg Post Office, with cooperation from the United States Postal Service, conducted their annual food drive. We also received help from United Way.
A total of 12,586 pounds of non-perishable food was collected and distributed to agencies in Vicksburg and Warren County.
This will be the second year the letter carriers of Vicksburg did the food drive in honor of Kimmy Melton, the daughter of Eddie and Amy Melton.
We would like to thank our local media — The Radio People at Y101.7, U.S. 96.3, Mix 98.7, V105, WVBG, WRTM, 92.7 The Touch Radio, Local TV channel 23 and The Vicksburg Post — for your promotions.
Special thanks to the City of Vicksburg for allowing the letter carriers to post signs around the city, Signs First for putting new lettering on signs, Carolyn Gaines Bell and Kroger Store for furnishing banana boxes, United Way for donating refreshments to volunteers, Rep. Oscar Denton for his time, support and hard work on the day of the food drive, Bancorp South employees on 3312 Pemberton Square Blvd, Janet Brown at Edward Jones on Halls Ferry, the Vicksburg Cannon Toyota employees, Eddie and Amy Melton and the volunteers they brought for collecting food form the schools and also helping out on the day of the food drive, Shawn Dorsey for making our food drive t-shirts and Postmaster Bill Farrior. All of your acts of kindness are highly and greatly appreciated.
Also special thanks goes to Charlie Martin and Sullivan Caldwell, our two retirees, Brandon Postmaster Bobbi James, Rural Carrier Deborah Montgomery, Clerks Ernest Hall, Marvin Williams and Terry Bell, letter carrier Andrew Wildee, John Connerly and Vice President Renee Maxey for their support and help on Saturday, May 14, with the food drive.
Thank you so much Vicksburg and Warren County citizens for your generosity. May all the giving and support continue. We look forward to future events. God bless.
