Warren County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday arrested a Vicksburg man on a warrant charging him with felony eluding and possession of a stolen vehicle in connection with a July 8 incident in which he managed to elude a sheriff’s deputy who was trying to make a traffic stop, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Demarquette Larenza Foster, 21, 90 Upland Drive, was being held without bail in the Warren County Jail pending an initial appearance Wednesday in county Justice Court. He also faces a drug possession charge after arresting officers found cocaine during the arrest.
Pace said a deputy tried to stop Foster about 3 a.m. July 8 after he saw Foster, driving a Nissan Versa, run a stop sign on Paxton Road. Foster drove away from the deputy, pulling into the driveway of a home on Old Highway 27 and then fleeing on foot. The car was later reported stolen by Vicksburg police.
Deputies and a Vicksburg police officer arrested Foster after learning he was staying at a hotel in the 1300 block of Walnut Street. The cocaine was found in the room while officers were making the arrest. A 22-caliber assault rifle was also found in the hotel room.
Man and woman held for drug charges
A man and a woman face drug charges after Warren County sheriff’s investigators found methamphetamine while talking to the couple about another case the officers were investigating, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
Kevin Wayne Owen, 37, of Florence, and Chrissy Ann Coleman, 28, of Quincy, Mass., were being held without bail in the Warren County Jail pending an initial appearance Wednesday in county Justice Court.
Pace said the investigators were on South Washington Street checking on a lead when they saw a parked car with two people and went to talk with them about the case. When they looked in the car, they saw the methamphetamine, which the couple was apparently getting ready to use.
