A Vicksburg man is being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond charged with first-degree murder after his arrest in the Wednesday night shooting death of Bobby Nelson, 35.

Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said Derrick Williams was arrested in Greenville Thursday night and returned to Vicksburg. Municipal Judge Toni Terrett set the bond during an initial appearance Friday.

Investigators believe Nelson was shot multiple times. He was found dead about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the street in the 2600 block of Moore Drive.

The morning after the shooting, Nicholas Smith, 23, voluntarily came into the police department for questioning by police. Williams said no charges have been filed against Smith, and authorities did not anticipate filing charges in the future against Smith in Nelson’s death.

The motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
