Warren Central is racking up the runs — and the wins — this slow-pitch softball season.
The Lady Vikes scored six runs in the top of the first inning, and nine more in the fourth, to earn a 17-2 run-rule victory over Richland on Thursday.
It was the eighth time in nine games that Warren Central (8-3) has scored at least nine runs. They’ve won all of those games.
Sarah Kate Smith hit a solo home run in the third inning for Warren Central and finished 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Cocoa Fultz was 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored, and Kasy Cortezie was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Morgan Stewart also had two hits, two RBIs and scored twice.
Cortezie got the Lady Vikes rolling in the first inning with a one-out single. She then scored on Stewart’s triple, and Stewart in turn scored on a base hit by Fultz to make it 2-0.
A double by Smith, two run-scoring ground outs, and an error allowed WC to extend the lead to 6-0.
In the fourth inning, Fultz drove in two runs with a triple and then scored on a double by Smith. Cortezie also had an RBI triple during the nine-run rally.
The Lady Vikes had 13 hits all together. Eight of them went for extra bases.
Warren Central will next play at division rival Greenville on Tuesday.

Maddie Weeks homered, and pitcher Kaeleigh Crutchfield silenced Porters Chapel Academy’s lineup as Clinton Christian shut out the Lady Eagles on Thursday.
Crutchfield allowed only four hits and one walk, and struck out seven in a complete game.
Weeks hit a solo homer in the fourth inning as Clinton Christian scored in all but one inning. She was 2-for-3 with a home run, double, and three runs scored.
Abbey Allen had two hits, including a double. She drove in a run and scored another for Clinton Christian.
Chelsea Myers had a double in the second inning for one of Porters Chapel’s four hits.
PCA and Clinton Christian will play again Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Bazinsky Park.
