Claudia Mae McCain

Claudia Mae McCain died Friday, Sept. 9, 2016, at Merit Health River Region Medical Center. She was 89.

Born and raised in Anguilla, she had lived most of her life in Vicksburg. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Acacia Lodge #56, a member of the Culkin Home Demonstration Club, and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James Fred McCain Sr.; her brother, Roger P. “Pem” Smith; her sisters, Christine “Bootsie” Billings, Clara Johnson and Geraldine Gerstenberger.

She is survived by her son, James Fred (Jewel) McCain Jr. of Vicksburg; two grandchildren, Deanna Purvis and Jennifer Newton; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor Rae Newton, Lydia Newton and Nikolas Coon.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, in the chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Rowland officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be David Ray Johnson, Roy Johnson, William Johnson, Steve Smith, William “Bubba” Johnson and Claude Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Nikolas Coon, Danny Moore, Rex Smithy and Stanley Mullins.
