Just call it a trifecta effect when churches hold fundraisers. Fun, fellowship and food are a winning combination, and on Saturday, Porter’s Chapel United Methodist Church will offer all three during its 44^th annual Porter’s Chapel Day.

“The Porter’s Chapel Day ‘main event’ is known far and wide as the best around, and it includes all kinds of food in every form imaginable,” church member B. B. Evans said.

The all-you-can-eat potluck buffet Evans is referring to will be served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church, 200 Porters Chapel Road.

Take out orders will also be available and deliveries will be offered for six or more orders.

The event, which has become one of the church’s main fundraisers, began in the early 70s, Evans said.

“When it first began it was a booth at the Miss-Lou Fair to raise money for Porter’s Chapel Methodist Church, and after transitioning through the booth stage at various events, it was finally decided to have the festivities at the church,” he said.

The leadership of the event is rotated each year, Evans said, between the Frances Hathorn Circle and the Porter’s Chapel Men’s club.

“The United Methodist Women’s Frances Hathorn Circle is in the leadership position this year, and the Porter’s Chapel Men’s Club will be assisting and will be the lead next year.

Both clubs work together to have a successful event,” Evans said.

In addition to the meal, Porter’s Chapel Day will also include a bake sale, a raffle for a hand crafted cedar bench, door prizes and an auction.

The bake sale, which will include cakes, pies, cookies and various other desserts will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will continue until all the “goodies are gone,” Evans said.

The cost for the meal is $10 and $6 for ages 10 and younger.

“All proceeds from Porter’s Chapel Day are used for building maintenance, grounds upkeep, mission projects, youth projects, and community projects that are supported by the church,” Evans said.
