YMCA football report

Bovina-South Park 7, St. Francis 7 – Maddox Lynch scored on a 10-yard run for Bovina, and Emerson Blackburn caught a touchdown pass for St. Francis as the teams played to a tie in the YMCA’s third- and fourth-grade league.

Beechwood 14, Dana Road 7 – John Chambers scored on a 20-yard run and Lester Martin on a 90-yard run to lead Beechwood to a win Clifton Walker had Dana Road’s TD, on an 80-yard run.

Clear Creek hole in one
Wesley Watts made a hole in one at Clear Creek Golf Course. He aced the 141-yard second hole using an 8 iron.His witnesses were Sam Davis, Jennings Thigpen and Cody Gray.

Clear Creek Ladies report

On Wednesday, the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association held its 2016 Championship Tournament. The championship flight winner was Linda McHann, followed by Carol Roberson in second and Lynne Brush in third. Second flight winners were Martha Masterson in first place, Connie Kegerreis in second and Emily Bonelli in third. Third flight winners were Mary May in first place, Dinah Lazor in second and Charlotte Crist in third.

McHann logged the lowest putting score award, with Roberson placing second and Masterson third.
Cheri Williams shot the lowest net score, with McHann placing second and Masterson placing third. Roberson hit the longest drive, and Brush hit the most accurate drive.

Closest-to-Pin awards went to Roberson in the Championship flight, Kegerreis in Flight B, and Dinah Lazor in Flight C.

VHS archery tryouts

Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s archery team will be held Oct. 11 and 12, at the ROTC building. All archers must have a physical and parental permission form. For information, email coach Pamela Piazza at pamela.piazza@vwsd.org.

Over the River Run

Registration is open for the 28th annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run, race walk and fun run on the Old Mississippi River Bridge. This year’s race is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $30 per person, or $20 for children ages 10 and under.

The Over the River Run benefits the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation. Entry forms are available at the SCHF office, at 1302 Adams Street, or Hobie’s Outdoor Sports. Online registration and more information is available at southernculture.org/events/otrr.htm.

Hinds golf tournament

The Warren-Claiborne Chapter of the Hinds Community College Alumni Association will host the Clyde Donnell and Othel Mendrop Memorial Golf Tournament Oct. 19, at Clear Creek Golf Course.

The four-person scramble begins at 1 p.m. A hamburger cookout and prize ceremony will follow the round. The entry fee is $75 per player. Team and hole sponsorships are also available. To register or for information, call Hinds alumni coordinator Libby Posey at 601-857-3350.
