Porters Chapel Academy’s trip to Wilkinson County Christian turned out to be about what you’d expect when a winless team goes up against the reigning state champion.
Wilkinson Christian scored 46 points in the first half and routed PCA 52-7 on Friday.
It was the 16th consecutive loss for PCA dating to last season, and dropped its record to 0-8 (0-2 in District 5-AA) this season. WCCA, the defending MAIS Class AA champion, improved to 6-1 by winning its district opener.
“They were very big and physical up front. They came out and ran the ball and got us back on our heels and wore us down,” PCA coach Blake Purvis said. “They were everything we thought they would be. They’re the defending state champion and they played like it.”
PCA did manage to achieve a milestone in the second half when Jake Arias threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Hutchins. It was the Eagles’ first passing touchdown of the season.
Arias was 12-of-20 passing for 89 yards, and Hutchins caught seven passes for 68 yards.
Cameron Harvey led PCA’s defense with seven tackles. McKinley Skipper and Cody Lyons each had six tackles.
Tallulah Academy 60, SIA 6
Sharkey-Issaquena scored the first six points Friday night. Tallulah Academy scored the next 60.
Ryan Hodge rushed for 191 yards and four touchdowns, Joshua Collins added 142 yards and three TDs, and Tallulah (5-0, 3-0 District 4-A) rolled in an MAIS eight-man football game.
Will Holcomb threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Colby Clark in the opening minute of the game for SIA (3-4, 1-2), but Tallulah dominated after that. Hodge ran for three touchdowns, while Collins scored twice on the ground and once on a pass to give Tallulah a 44-6 lead at halftime.
Holcomb was 10-of-24 passing for 122 yards and a touchdown for SIA. The Confederates only had 47 rushing yards.
Central Hinds 49, Riverfield 32
Prentice Brown rushed for 241 yards and three touchdowns to help Central Hinds (5-3, 1-1 District 3-AAA) beat Riverfield (2-6, 0-3) and snap a three-game losing streak.
Quarterback Tanner Leggett ran for 90 yards and three scores for the Cougars, who will play at St. Aloysius next Friday.
