Vicksburg police are holding three people for questioning in the Wednesday afternoon shooting of Brandon Jackson, Capt. Sandra Williams said.

She said no charges have been filed against any of the three and the investigation into the shooting is continuing. Jackson was taken to Merit Health River Region Medical Center and later flown to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where he is in fair condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.

“We are still trying to iron some things out and determine a motive,” Williams said. “I believe we can get to the bottom of this.”

Officers responding to a 4:10 p.m. call about a man being shot found Jackson lying on the grounds of the Vicksburg Warren School District’s Academy of Innovation on Grove Street, apparently shot in the back.

The shooting forced police to close off sections or Grove and Jackson streets around the school after the shooting as they began their investigation. No one affiliated with the school was involved in the shooting.
