James ‘Jimmy’ Hand Carter

JACKSON — James Hand Carter “Jimmy” passed away Oct. 19, 2016, at the age of 55.

Jimmy was born on July 1, 1961, in Rolling Fork. He graduated from All Saints Episcopal School in 1979. It was here that he met many of his lifelong friends.

Jimmy had a love for school and always wanted to challenge himself by learning something new. He received a geology degree from Louisiana Tech, an MBA from Millsaps College, and an accounting degree from Mississippi College. From there he became a CPA. At this point, he began taking guitar lessons to further his love for music.

Outside of school, his hobbies included traveling with his wife, Robin. His favorite travel destination was New Orleans. He also loved playing guitar with friends, gardening and cycling.

Jimmy and Robin married on August 14, 1983. Theirs was a marriage, love and friendship that only got better every year for 33 years.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Robin Carter; son, James Carter; stepdaughter, Annie Kraft (Brian), three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He is also survived by his parents, Kathleen and Rives Carter; siblings Cal Carter (Laura) and Cragin Carter Boyle (Mike); and nephews, Carter Boyle and Chris Boyle. He also leaves behind his faithful furry companion Django.

A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, in the Nave at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Cathedral.

Visitation will precede the service beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall at St. Andrew’s . 

Immediately following services, all are invited to Robin and Jimmy’s home for a celebration of his life. If you have a musical instrument you are encouraged to bring it to their home. There will be lots of music, love, laughter and tears to be shared.
