Who doesn’t love a good pastry?

The Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce is counting on the answer to that question being a resounding, “No one.”

On Nov. 3, the chamber will transform into a bustling pastry shop for its first Beignet Breakfast.

From 7 to 10 a.m., chamber employees will turn into pastry chefs in support of the Vicksburg Young Professionals and the United Way of West Central Mississippi.

“We’ll have folks from the United Way and Young Professionals delivering beignets around town for large orders, but we’ll be here cooking that morning and anyone is welcome to buy a ticket and sit and eat that morning,” Lurline Simmons, the chamber’s membership and recruitment services coordinator, said.

The idea for the fundraiser, Simmons said, came from a Young Professionals member who had previously participated in a similar fundraiser.

“We kind of rolled with it from there trying to put our spin on it,” she said. “We hope this becomes an annual event we have every fall. This is our first time to do something like this.”

The event is open to the public, and anyone interested can purchase a dozen beignets for $10 or three beignets and a drink, which includes coffee, water, orange juice or Chick-fil-A’s iced lattes, for $5 in advance or the day of the event.

“The board room will be available for anyone who wants to eat them while they are hot and fresh,” Simmons said.

Those who preorder will have reduced wait time, she said, and orders of more than 10 dozen are eligible for delivery.

Additional sponsors for the event include Goldie’s Express, Foam Packaging, Divine Donuts and Sam’s Club, and the proceeds are to be divided between the Young Professionals and the United Way, a partnership Simmons said was a “natural fit.”

“We both have the same goal of improving the quality of life,” she said. “Ours is through networking and trying to pull together those who are young working professionals in the community between the ages of 21 and 40, and they are working to improve the quality of life for all of their partnerships.”
