Frank J. Stewart died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, at Merit Health River Region Medical Center after a short illness. He was 90.
He was born in Philadelphia, March 27, 1926, to Frank Stewart Sr. and Abby Williams Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was an employee of the Waterways Experiment Station working as a drill rig operator, retiring in 1988 after 32 years of service. Mr. Stewart was a veteran of World War II enlisting in the Navy in 1944 to serve his country.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years Ernie R. Stewart, one brother and four sisters.
He is survived by two sons, Michael J. Stewart (Mary) and Lindsey Stewart (Elizabeth); four grandchildren, Kimberly Stewart, John Michael Stewart (Rebecca), Edward Stewart (Heather), and Stephen Stewart; four great-grandchildren, John Bailess Stewart, Adeline Waring Stewart, Evan Stewart and Dylan Stewart; two sisters, Bessie Green and Bonnie Gray; and one brother, Noel Stewart.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. P.J. Curley, pastor of St. Michael Catholic Church, officiating.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Paul Pierce III and his staff for their years of support; staff on the second floor at Vicksburg Convalescent Home during his short stay there in skilled nursing; and the staff at Merit Health River Region Medical Center fifth floor.
Pallbearers will be John Michael Stewart, Edward Stewart, Stephen Stewart, Tim Wright, Hayden Palmer and Ben Shaw.
