If we could only bottle all of this discontent

Published 9:42 pm Friday, November 4, 2016

In just four days, we will have the opportunity to go to the polls and vote.

Sometime during Tuesday evening, we will more than likely find out who our next President of the United States will be. There will be some who will say they won, and then there will be those who feel like they lost.

This 2016 Presidential campaign has been one like I have never seen before. People have been so impassioned by the candidates. Some have even crossed the lines of decency.

And just so no one is unclear, that goes for both sides!

There is nothing wrong for supporting and being fervent for a candidate, but we must respect others’ views even if they are not our own.

It has been very clear that neither Trump nor Clinton have sparkling reputations, and many, like myself, wish there had been a candidate chosen during the primaries that could have represented the country with a shinier character.

But that was not the case, and now we will all need to learn to support and respect the person who is chosen to serve in the highest position of the nation.

Obviously, I would appreciate a President who sees the world through my eyes, one who would pass laws that benefited my family and me and obviously that could help Mississippi.

I know it would be literally impossible to have the one person elected be able to make everyone happy, and certainly there have been times when some of the decisions that have been made by past presidents have upset me.

However, I personally think it is un-American to disrespect the office, even if the President acted in ways that were in contradiction to what I believed was right.

But I continue to have faith in the county’s founders and the system that they put in place.

I know some will differ, and I have even heard of some threatening on their Facebook posts that they will leave the country if their guy or gal does not win.

I am curious to know where these people think they could go that would be better than the United States.

But if they do, you know what they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. So if these people really have the gumption to pack their bags and leave, I would image they will miss “U.S.” eventually.

With all this unrest and discontent, it got me to thinking today about how awesome it would be if we could bottle up all this energy that has been expressed from all sides of the political spectrum and come together in unity. Talk about a great country!
