Warren Central soccer opens with a victory

Considering a good chunk of both rosters were missing, Warren Central boys soccer coach Greg Head took Saturday’s result against Pearl with a grain of salt. It still tasted pretty good, though.

Dillon Green scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Josh Griffin midway through the second half, and Warren Central beat Pearl 1-0 in their season-opening classic game.

It’s the first time in five meetings that the Vikings have beaten Pearl, a perennial state power.

“It was a good win, even though they were missing a lot of guys and we were missing four of ours with football,” Head said.

In the girls’ game, Warren Central and Pearl tied 1-1.

Both Warren Central teams will play at the Laurel Tournament next weekend. Their first home game is Nov. 15 against Terry.
