Shooting reported in Vicksburg

One man is wounded and police are looking for his assailant after a shooting occurred Friday afternoon in Vicksburg.

Around 2:30 p.m. Friday a 39-year-old man got in an argument with the store clerk in the convenience store Top Five Food Mart located on the corner of Bowmar Avenue and Drummond Street, Vicksburg Lt. Troy Kimble said. During the argument a customer intervened and began to also argue with the 39-year-old man.

After the two men left the store, the men continued to argue and the intervening customer shot the 39-year-old man in the leg twice outside the store, Kimble said. The cause of the argumentative is undetermined.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken by personal car to Merit Health River Region Medical Center. Investigators are reviewing video surveillance at this time to identify the shooter, Kimble said.

Bowmar Elementary School was on lockdown for a short period of time, but students were dismissed on time.
