Vicksburg police are looking for a man who stole a diamond ring and a gold necklace valued a $9,900 Nov. 5 from Kay Jewelers Outlet at the Outlets at Vicksburg, 4000 South Frontage Road.

“The man came in as they were opening the store about 10 a.m. and asked to look at the jewelry,” Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

She said the man, who identified himself as “Ray,” said he was interested in buying the ring and necklace. He later grabbed the ring and necklace and ran out of the store.

Assistant store manager Brittany Case said the man came in wearing sunglasses and browsed through the store, telling clerks he was looking for something for his wife. He asked first to look at a man’s diamond ring and then asked to look at gold chains. She said he carried the ring with him as he walked to another counter to look at the chains.

“Looking at the video, you could tell he knew what he was looking for,” Case said. “You could see him weigh the chain in his hand to see if it was hollow.”

After looking at the chain, she said, he suddenly left, taking the chain and the ring.

Case said employees believe he may have driven off in a grey Nissan with a Florida car tag, but they were not sure.

“It was hard to tell,” she said. “The mall was very busy that day, and there were a lot of people there.”
