The 15th Annual Breakfast with Santa at the Vicksburg Convention Center will be Saturday, Dec. 10 from 8 to 10 a.m.

Over a breakfast of pancakes and sausage from McDonald’s, children will get the chance to play games, make crafts and share their wish lists with Santa.

“It’ll be a lot of fun for the kids,” sales coordinator Sue Bagby said. “They’ll be able to do a lot of stuff for their $7 ticket: breakfast, a magician, all these crafts and all the different activities. I think it’ll be a fun day for them.”

For the event’s 15th year, Bagby wanted to add a new element to the breakfast tradition. This year will have a theme titled “Magical Adventures in Candyland.” Based on the board game, activities will be organized for children in a life-sized land of candy.

“We wanted to make it a little bit different and a little bit more fun,” Bagby said. “The kids will be like the players on the board, and they’ll visit different areas like the gingerbread, apple tree area and the peppermint stick forest.”

Each candied area will be set up with a game or craft for the children to enjoy. Bagby said students from the local junior high and high schools are volunteering to operate the stations and play with the children throughout the breakfast event.

“That’s always my favorite part, watching kids have fun,” Bagby said.

Magician Dorian LaChance will also be in attendance to make balloon animals and give a magical performance for the children.

In addition to the fun, the event is also a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mississippi with a portion of the event and raffle ticket sales going to the charity.

Raffle tickets will be sold for $1 or six for $5. Up for grabs will be two Santa bags full of toys and electronics worth $500 each from Wal-Mart. The two winners must be at the breakfast to claim their prize.  Event tickets are $7 in advance or $10 on Dec. 10.

“We don’t have a certain amount of money that we’re trying to get. We just try every year to do better than we did the year before,” Bagby said.

Last year, the event raised $2,800 for the charity located on the University of Mississippi Medical Center campus serving as a home for families with children being treated in Jackson hospitals. Ronald McDonald House representatives will be at the breakfast to answer questions and inform people about the charity.

Raffle tickets can be purchased during the breakfast or at the convention center at 1600 Mulberry St. Event tickets come with one raffle ticket, and can be purchased on tickmaster.com, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or by visiting the convention center.
