Power restored in east Vicksburg

Power was restored to the east side of Vicksburg just over an hour after the section of town lost electricity because of a lost substation feeder Saturday morning.

At 12:37 p.m. service was switched to an alternate feed until the broken breaker could be repaired, Entergy customer service representative Sheila McKinnis said.

“They shouldn’t lose power unless something else happens,” McKinnis said. “It’ll be on the alternate feed until the repairs are made.”

She said crews would have to wait until the rain clears up to repair the breaker and estimated the repair could take place Sunday. The outage was caused by equipment failure, she said.

McKinnis explained the outage like a circuit in a house that has tripped and cut power in the entire home, but this large circuit cut power to a substation.

At 11:03 a.m. Entergy lost the substation feeder, cutting power to 744 customers, McKinnis said.

The outage impacted a large portion of Mississippi 27 and East Clay Street including the Outlets at Vicksburg, the YMCA, Beechwood, Warren Central High School and more.
