A Vicksburg home was destroyed by fire Monday night.

The home located at 3107 Laughlin St. was a total loss when it caught fire on the second story Monday night, said Vicksburg Deputy Fire Chief Craig Danczyk.

At 11:04 p.m. Monday, Engine 7, Engine 6, Ladder 14 and other first reponders were called to the home, which was 30 to 40 percent involved with flames when they arrived, he said.

Danczyk said the fire was difficult to contain because of its size and how quickly it spread.

Parts of the second floor collapsed causing catastrophic damage and the use of defensive tactics to control the blaze by firefighters, he said.

“Multiple units were on scene for many hours,” Danczyk said.

The house next door was not damaged and Danczyk was unsure if the homeowner was home during the fire.

Fire investigators will evaluate the scene today to find the fire’s origin and cause.
