College softball at VHS

Vicksburg High will host a Division I college softball game at its Softball Swamp field on Feb. 16, when Alcorn State takes on Kentucky State in its 2017 season opener. Admission is $4 at the gate, but free hillside seating will be available for Alcorn State and Vicksburg Warren School District students with a current school ID badge.

Clear Creek Ladies kickoff

The Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association will hold its 2017 season kickoff and registration on Feb. 18 at the Clear Creek Golf Course clubhouse. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and the group is open to women golfers of all skill levels. The group will play a round of golf following registration. Polk at PCA fundraiser

Former Mississippi State baseball coach Ron Polk will be the featured speaker at a fundraiser for Porters Chapel Academy on Feb. 27.

The banquet will begin at 6 p.m., and will be held at PCA’s gym. Tickets are $30, and includes dinner and the program. Tickets are available at the Porters Chapel Academy office, at 3460 Porters Chapel Road, during business hours. All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit Porters Chapel Academy athletics.

Kings basketball jamboree

The Kings Empowerment Center will begin its youth basketball season with the Kick Off Jamboree on Feb. 11, beginning at 10 a.m. The tournament is open to teams in grades 6-12, and there is a two-game guarantee. The entry fee is $75 per team. For more information or to register, call 601-634-4788.

Zeke West bass tournament

The Ninth Annual Zeke West Memorial Scholarship bass fishing tournament is scheduled for March 4 at Lake Bruin State Park.

The registration fee is $100 per boat, with an optional big bass entry fee of $10 per person. First place is guaranteed a $1,500 prize, and additional prizes will be paid for second through fifth places based on the number of entries.

VGSA registration

Registration for the 2017 Vicksburg Girls Softball Association season is now open. Registration forms are available at Hobie’s Sports and Outdoors, or by emailing vicksburggsa@gmail.com

The registration fee is $60 for one player, or $50 per player for a family with two or more players. Banner and team sponsorships are also available.

Scorekeepers, umps needed

Scorekeepers and Umpires are needed for the City of Vicksburg’s softball and baseball seasons. Employment forms can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation office at 100 Army-Navy Drive. For more information, call 601-634-4514.
