Johnny ‘Stepper’ Washington

Johnny “Stepper” Washington died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017. He was 79.

Johnny was born in Mississippi and worked as a mechanic at Boyd’s Service Station. He retired from R.R. Morrison Fast Lane on Indiana as a service attendant supervisor.

He was owner of the Amoco Service Station on Cherry Street, Anderson Cafe, and Granger’s Hall Cafe.

He was a member of the Vicksburg Homecoming Benevolent Club and Greater Mount Lebanon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Pearlie Washington; brothers, George Washington and James Washington; and four sisters, Henrietta Ross, Gladys Washington, Walterine Washington and Juanita Davis.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ruby Washington of Vicksburg; sons, Carl Washington of Vicksburg and Walter (Darlene) Washington Sr. of Byram; daughter, Paulette Harris of Avondale Estates, Georgia; grandchildren, Amy (Charles) Swartz of Vicksburg, Walter “Jeff” Washington Jr. of Houston, Texas, Bryson Nicholas of Avondale Estate, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Charles Swartz III and Destiney Swartz; sister, Bobbi Dolly of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and a brother-in-law, Charles Clark.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Greater Mount Lebanon with the Rev. John H. Williams officiating.

Burial will follow at the Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. with the family at Lakeview Funeral Home.
