Faye Wilson Rector

COLUMBUS—Faye Wilson Rector of Columbus passed away March 14, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.  She was 87.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 17, at 11 a.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Gillon officiating and the Rev. Sammy Crawford assisting.

Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.

Gunter & Peel Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

She was born Jan. 26, 1930, in Melbourne, Ala., to the late Bryan and Idell Brown Wilson.  She was a graduate of Millport High School.

She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she taught the

Ruth Sunday school class for many years.  She loved teaching the Bible and

the ladies in her class.

Affectionately known as “Mama Faye,” she sold real estate for many years until 2011, and was named Realtor of the Year for the Columbus Board of Realtors in 2007.  She worked for various real estate agencies that included Vice & Keys, Century 21, Robinson Real Estate Better Homes & Garden, and Coldwell Banker West Realty.

In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, R. C. Rector Jr., whom she married in 1947; a beloved granddaughter, Sarah Fae Townsend; and brother, Jack Wilson of Anniston, Ala.

She was a loving mother to her son Ken Rector of Vicksburg and daughter Joy (Steve) Townsend of Columbus.

She is also survived by her sister, Darleene Spencer of Macomb, Ill.; grandchildren, Leigh Rector (Bart) Lusk, Clint (Lauren) Townsend, Anthony Rector, Wilson (Leslie) Townsend, Emily Beene and Patrick Beene; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Lusk, Dunkin Townsend, Sarah Ellyn Townsend, Jackson Lusk, Noble Grace Townsend, Riley Townsend, Wade Townsend and Lily Kate Townsend.

Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
