Warren Central crushes Lafayette

A day after it was shut out for the first time this season, Warren Central’s baseball team woke up in a big way.

Vantrel Reed and Sean Daily each had two hits and two RBIs, Landon Stewart scored three runs, and the Vikings routed Lafayette 13-2 at the Battle at the Beach tournament Friday in Gulfport.

The Vikings (7-4) had 11 hits and scored five of the game’s six innings less than 24 hours after they were blanked 4-0 by Buckhorn (Ala). It was the fifth time in 11 games this season that WC has scored 10 or more runs.

Lafayette took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but WC tied it with two runs in the second. Logan Stewart had an RBI single and D.J. Lewis a sacrifice fly.

Reed led off the third inning with a double and then scored on a double by Daily to give WC the lead for good. It scored twice more in the third inning, twice in the fourth and four times in the fifth to pull away. It finished the run-rule victory with two runs in the sixth.

Daily was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored. Reed was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs. Caleb Sterling and Matthew Newcomb also drove in two runs apiece.
Farmer Abendroth started and pitched three innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits. He struck out six.

Morgan Jarabica and Grayson Shealy combined for three innings of scoreless relief.

Warren Central will play Biloxi at 10 a.m. Saturday in MGM Park, the home of the Milwaukee Brewers’ Double-A affiliate the Biloxi Shuckers.
