The start of Warren Central’s long weekend on the Coast was no day at the beach.

Senior pitcher Kyle Davis struck out seven and allowed only four hits in seven innings as Buckhorn (Ala.) beat Warren Central 4-0 Thursday in its opening game at the Battle at the Beach spring break baseball tournament in Biloxi.

The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Warren Central (6-4). It was the first time it has been shut out this season.

Aaron Greene allowed four runs in five innings for the Vikings, and Christian Oakes threw two innings of scoreless relief. They received no support from the offense, however.

Warren Central hit into two double plays and no players had multiple hits. Despite getting runners on base in each of the first six innings, only two of them got past second base.

Buckhorn, meanwhile, was a bit more efficient with its opportunities.

The Bucks scored twice in the second inning after loading the bases with one out, on a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly by Drew Hill. Hill also had an RBI single in the fourth inning, and Davis helped his own cause with an RBI groundout in the fifth to make it 4-0.

Warren Central will try to get back on track today as it plays a doubleheader at Gulfport High School. The first game is against Lafayette at 2:30 p.m., and the second against Gulfport at 7:30.

The Vikings finish their run at the tournament Saturday morning at 10, when they face Biloxi High School at MGM Park.
