VSO Spring Jamboree

The Vicksburg Soccer Organization will host its Spring Jamboree tournament April 1 and 2 at the Bovina Soccer Complex. The tournament is open to boys and girls teams in the U8-U16 age divisions at the Division II and III skill levels. The registration fee ranges from $150 for U8 teams to $300 for U16 teams.

Volunteers are also needed to help with tournament operations

Bubba Mims golf tournament

Porters Chapel Academy will host the 13th annual Bubba Mims Memorial Golf Classic April 26 at Vicksburg Country Club. The event is a four-man scramble and will begin with lunch at 11 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

The entry fee is $395 per four-man team and includes cart, beverages and lunch. All proceeds benefit Porters Chapel Academy. For more information, call Mark Buys at 601-636-3752.

Adult softball registration

Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s adult men’s and women’s softball leagues will continue through April 17. Registration packets can be picked up at the Parks and Recreation offices at 100 Army-Navy Drive, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The registration fee is $175 per team, with an extra $10 fee for Warren County residents and a $20 fee for players from Sharkey, Issaquena, Claiborne, and Hinds counties.

A mandatory coaches meeting will be held April 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Rec office. All teams must have a representative there. For more information, call Joseph Graves at 601-634-4514.

Lifeguard class

The Purks YMCA will host an American Red Cross lifeguarding class March 27 to April 7. The 30-hour class will meet from 6 to 8:45 p.m. each week night for two weeks.

People taking the class must be at least 15 years old or turning 15 no later than April 7, 2017. Candidates must also pass a strength and endurance test prior to the class, which includes a 300-yard swim.

The cost of the course is $150 for YMCA members and $175 for non-members. The course will be taught by veteran American Red Cross instructors Susan and Bob Athow, and Sylvia Gurtowski.

WC volleyball tryouts

Warren Central will hold tryouts for its varsity volleyball team March 22 and 23 at Warren Central Junior High gym, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Players must have a current physical, parental consent forms and concussion forms. All forms are available in the offices of Warren Central High School, Warren Central Junior High, and the Academy of Innovation.
