Augusta “Gussie” W. Jennings

Augusta “Gussie” W. Jennings died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Ocean Springs Health and Rehab Center in Ocean Springs.  She was 91.

She was born in Vicksburg to the late Clarence and Cora Hall Whitaker. She lived most of her life in Warren County before moving to Ocean Springs.

Gussie loved gardening and made sure that she planted enough vegetables to share with everyone she knew. Her greatest joy was her family and serving others. Gussie was known to have given many Bibles away to those whom she thought were in need of the Word of God.  Gussie was known at the nursing home as “the lady that loves everyone.”

Her gentle and loving spirit will be greatly missed on this side of heaven. Gussie was a member of Triumph Church in Vicksburg and Liberty Church in Gautier.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Franklin Jennings; a daughter, Rebecca Marie Jennings; two sisters, Jessie McCarty and Ione Bramblett; four brothers, Clint Whitaker, Ernest “Buddy” Whitaker, Felix Whitaker and Lester Whitaker.

Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Jennings Roddey; two granddaughters, Beverly Rushing Yearwood (Jamie), Sandra Rushing Dent (Hayden); four great-grandchildren, Addison Dent (Natalia), Melissa Dent, Cole Yearwood and Michael Roddey; and numerous nieces, nephews and family members.

Services will be 11 a.m.  Saturday, March 25, at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. John Watson, pastor of Liberty Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.

Pallbearers will be Hayden Dent, Jamie Yearwood, Cole Yearwood, James Roddey, Jim Bramblett and Stan Whitaker.  Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or charity of choice.
