STARKVILLE — A come-from-behind victory made the Mississippi State baseball team feel good again Friday.

Brent Rooker hit a two-run double to cap a three-run seventh inning as Mississippi State rallied past Tennessee 5-4 in the opening game of a three-game Southeastern Conference series.

The Bulldogs (13-10, 1-3 SEC) snapped a four-game losing streak.

“I’m really proud of the guys for finding a way to get it done tonight,” MSU coach Andy Cannizaro said. “We just kept battling all night. It was a team win because so many players contributed. We fielded it well, pitched it well and got a couple of big hits in key situations.”

The Bulldogs collected 10 hits. Ryan Gridley, Elijah MacNamee, Cody Brown and Josh Lovelady each had two. MacNamee’s first home run of the season gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Tennessee (13-6, 0-4) answered back with a run on an RBI double by Justin Ammons in the third inning. The Volunteers then grabbed the lead with three run in the fourth inning. Benito Santiago hit a double, prior to a two-run home run by Dom Thornton.

Things stayed that way until the Bulldogs scored three times in the seventh.

Tanner Poole had an RBI single to bring the Bulldogs within one. With two outs, Rooker hit a double to left center to plate the game-tying and go-ahead runs.

Kentucky 4, Ole Miss 2

Ryan Olenek and Chase Cockrell hit solo home runs for Ole Miss (15-8, 3-2 SEC), but it wasn’t enough as Kentucky (17-7, 4-1) used two unearned runs to even their series in Lexington.

Designated hitter Evan White went 3-for-4, while Riley Mahan added a pair of hits as well for Kentucky. Luke Heyer hit a solo home run.

Zach Logue (4-1) earned the win with seven innings of work. He gave up two runs on six hits, including a pair of homers. Kentucky closer Logan Sallow pitched the final two innings to collect his fifth save of the season.

Southern Miss 5, Marshall 3
Marshall 8, Southern Miss 7

LeeMarcus Boyd hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to give Southern Miss the win over Marshall in the opening game of a Conference USA series in Hattiesburg, 5-3.

Seven of the eight runs came via the home run on a windy day in the Pine Belt. Daniel Keating hit a solo shot in the first inning for Southern Miss (18-5, 4-1 C-USA), while Matt Wallner went deep twice.

Sam Finfer hit a two-run home run for Marshall in the fourth inning. He also scored on a single by Shane Hanon in the sixth to put the Thundering Herd ahead 3-2. Wallner’s second home run tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, and Boyd won it in the 11th.

USM reliever Nick Sandlin allowed one hit in 4 1/3 scoreless innings to earn the win.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Finfer hit a solo homer with two outs in the top of the 10th inning to lift Marshall (11-9, 3-2) to an 8-7 victory.

Wallner and Taylor Braley both homered for Southern Miss in game two. Casey Maack had an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth that tied the game at 7.
