James Wilkerson Sr. died Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. He was 81.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, he was formerly employed as a security guard for Day Detectives for 34 years. He was a former special deputy in Delta, La., and for the Warren County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff Paul Barrett. He was a member of the High Praise Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Wilkerson; and his daughter, Betty Boone.

Survivors include his son, James (Norma) Wilkerson Jr. of Vicksburg; his daughter, Jeanette (Ron) Strait of Newton; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be noon Tuesday, March 28, 2017, in the chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home with Pastor Chaz Bosarge officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ron Strait, Billy Strait, Chris Sellers and Garry James.
