More than anything Monday, Porters Chapel Academy just needed a win to shake off its recent blues and start a crucial week of the season on the right foot. It got all of that and then some, courtesy of Rebul Academy.

Ryan Collins pitched a three-inning no-hitter, and also doubled, tripled and drove in four runs at the plate as PCA routed Rebul 15-0.

The Eagles (8-9) had lost four of their last five heading into a pair of District 5-AA games this week with Clinton Christian. PCA plays at Clinton Christian Tuesday at 3 p.m., and then will host the Warriors Friday at 6 p.m.

“It’s good just to get that winning feeling back. That confidence that comes with it,” PCA coach Wade Patrick said. “It didn’t matter to me if it was 1-0. Hopefully it will roll over into the rest of the year.”

One of the main reasons for PCA’s recent slump was its tendency to make errors in the field. Collins and his teammates, however, made sure that wasn’t an issue Monday.

Collins struck out six batters in his brief no-hitter. Although he walked three, the lack of balls put in play limited the defense’s exposure.

“Ryan struck out six, so they didn’t get much action,” Patrick said. “That’s something we have to continue to work and improve on. Pitching and defense is going to determine our fate the rest of the season.”

The hitters, meanwhile, simply overwhelmed Rebul.

Collins finished with three hits, while Bailey McMillian and Cole Pittman had two each. McMillian, Pittman, Brandon Thompson and Glenn Alan Kittrell all had two RBIs.

Thompson and Kittrell both hit doubles.

The Eagles jumped on top with eight runs in the first inning, and then added five in the second and two more in the third to win via the mercy rule.

Now PCA will head back within its district borders for a crucial home-and-home with Clinton Christian. PCA lost its first two District 5-AA games last week against Franklin Academy. While there are still eight district games left on the schedule, the Eagles can’t afford too many — if any — more losses if the harbor any hopes of making the playoffs.

“We still have a lot to play for,” Patrick said. “We can’t afford to fall any further behind the leaders. We have put ourselves behind the 8-ball and now we can’t have any letdowns.”

Port Gibson 10, Vicksburg 6

Jacory Rankin had two RBIs and scored three runs, Jeremy Washington walked twice and scored three times, and Port Gibson (6-4) rallied from a five-run deficit to beat Vicksburg High on Monday night.

Chandler Luke went 2–for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Vicksburg (3-10), which led 5-0 after 2 ½ innings but couldn’t hold on to the lead. Port Gibson scored four runs in the third inning, two more in the fourth to tie it at 6, and then four in the fifth to surge ahead for good.

Chris Farrish had a double for Vicksburg, while Gage Ederington singled, scored a run and drove in another with a ground out.

The Gators will play two Division 4-5A games this week against Lanier. The first is Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Jackson, and the second is Friday night at 7 at Bazinsky Field.
