John Hale made a hole in one on the second hole at Clear Creek Golf Course on March 26. His shot was from 132 yards with a pitching wedge. Witnesses were Chuck Lewis, Don Townson and Alton Courtney.

Paws Rescue golf tourney

Paws Rescue’s “Golf 4 Paws” charity golf tournament will be held April 21 at 9 a.m. at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina. The entry fee for the four-person scramble is $70 per person or $280 per team. In addition to the golf, a live and silent auction will be held, lunch will be provided and awards given.

All proceeds will go toward rescue expenses for the animals in the care of Paws Rescue. Donations of cash, cat food and dog food are welcome.

Bluz Cruz registration

Registration is now open for the 2017 Bluz Cruz kayak and canoe race. The 22-mile race on the Mississippi River is scheduled for April 8, and will begin at 9 a.m. at the Madison Parish Port. Shuttle service is available to the port from the former Grand Station Casino parking lot in downtown Vicksburg. In addition, a mandatory safety meeting will be held prior to the race at 8:30 a.m. Boat portage services are not available.

The registration fee is $50 before April 1 and $60 after that date. Early registration is encouraged.

VHS basketball tryouts

Tryouts for Vicksburg High School’s varsity and ninth-grade girls basketball team are scheduled for April 11-13, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the VHS gym. Players must attend all three days of tryouts and have a current physical and physical form; completed residency and concussion forms; and a parental consent form.

WC basketball tryouts

Tryouts for Warren Central’s varsity girls basketball team are scheduled for March 27-31 in Gym A. Tryouts for the ninth-grade team will be held April 3-7.

Players must attend each day of the tryout, and must have completed physical, clearance, concussion and residency forms, as well as a current physical. All forms are available at the main office of Warren Central High School, WC Junior High and the Academy of Innovation.

Bubba Mims golf tourney

Porters Chapel Academy will host the 13th annual Bubba Mims Memorial Golf Classic April 26 at Vicksburg Country Club. The event is a four-man scramble and will begin with lunch at 11 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
