Warren Central tennis takes care of Vicksburg

Warren Central and Vicksburg will duke it out again on Saturday for the city’s tennis championship, but on Thursday it was clearly the Vikings who reigned supreme.

Warren Central did not drop a set in routing Vicksburg 7-0 Thursday at Halls Ferry Park.
In the singles matches, Taylor Smith beat Faye Valerio 7-5, 7-5 and George Wilkerson beat Chris Albert 6-1, 6-2.

In girls doubles, Lexi Stewart and Redford Lowery defeated Ashleigh Bailey and Jasmine Freeman, while in No. 1 boys doubles it was John Robert Jabour and Steed Springfield over John Wilkerson and Chance Williams 6-4, 6-1.

In No. 2 boys doubles, Ian Gordon and Parker Waites won 7-6, 6-3. In mixed doubles, Gordon Wilkerson and Madison Embry cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

Warren Central improved its record to 8-0 with the win. It will host Grenada Friday at 4 p.m., and Clinton next Thursday at 4 p.m.

In between, the Vikings will play Vicksburg, St. Aloysius and Madison-St. Joseph in the annual Julie Abraham Memorial Tournament Saturday at 9 a.m. at Halls Ferry Park.
