Welcome spring, in all its glory

Published 8:17 pm Saturday, April 1, 2017

April is the month of restoration of faith, family, friendships, church and the community. April is the perfect time to spring into action and impact the community with encouragement and optimism.

Throughout the city, trees are budding and flowers are blooming. All of a sudden, we are delighting in lingering sunshine, warm breezes and near summer time temperatures.

Spring has arrived and it is evident most every place you look throughout the community. The arrival of spring signifies the school year is coming to an end and Easter is approaching.

For anyone planning on traveling, take a moment to make sure your driver’s license and automobile insurance are up to date just in case you encounter a law enforcement officer.

If you are traveling for class reunions, family reunions or vacations make sure your car is road ready to avoid any unexpected mechanical troubles.

Have your car inspected and change your engine oil regularly to keep your vehicle running efficiently. When traveling, it is always a good idea to familiarize yourself with the traffic laws of the states you will be traveling through.

Always obey all traffic laws and never text while driving.

Easter is representation of Christ’s triumph over death. Easter is considered a moveable feast as it does not fall on a set date every year, as most holidays do.

This is a holiday when Christians are reminded of the ultimate sacrifice God made sending his only son, Jesus, to suffer for the sins of the world. It’s a time for Christians to recall the miracle that took place many years ago at Calvary and to celebrate our redemption at the hands of the Almighty God. Upon reflection of the significance of Easter, many Christians are encouraged to dedicate to selflessness, love thy neighbor and live in a way that glorifies God.

Easter inspires Christians to reflect on the “new life” we have in Jesus Christ.  It doesn’t matter who we are or how much we accomplish in life, we each stand humbled before an Almighty God.

As chief, I want to assure all citizens that the Vicksburg Police Department is working to protect and serve this community. Your safety is our main objective. Through community policing, we are working together toward a common goal … to get rid of crime in the community. “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalms 133:1). To the citizens of Vicksburg, Be Blessed and Happy Easter.
