Gertrude Brister Lyons

Funeral services for Gertrude Brister Lyons, 82 will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Church Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 2 p.m. She passed away April 4 at her home in Vicksburg.
Gertrude Lyons was born to Samuel and Lucille Brister on Jan. 16, 1935. She was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She loved spending time with her family and loved attending mass and reading scripture with her church family at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of for a long time.

She also loved to crochet and bragged about being a great-great grandmother. She graduated from St. Francis Xavier in 1953, where she excelled in basketball.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sharla Donahoe; and a sister, Peggy Potts.
She is survived by a son, David Ward Lyons Jr. (Lulu) of Vicksburg, three daughters, Sylvia Lyons Callen (Chris) of Vicksburg, Audrey Lyons Bobo (John) of Shreveport, La., and Monica Lyons Cooper of
Powell, Tenn.
She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be at the church from noon until the start of the service.
Interment will follow the service at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. P.J. Curley officiating.
Active pallbearers will be Edward Herring, Brad Lyons, Taylor Bobo, Daniel Bobo, Riley Bobo, Barylen Warnock, and Reece Herring.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Pitts, Bill Elliott, and Jeff Harrell.
