Jack Hayne Folk Sr.

TALLULAH — Jack Hayne Folk Sr. of Tallulah, La., passed away peacefully April 6, 2017, at the Olive Branch Senior Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 92.

Jack was born Oct. 5, 1924 in Tallulah to Benjamin Perry and Lucy Sevier Folk.

He graduated from Tallulah High School and then went to Vanderbilt University for two years.  From there he went into the United States Army, where he was wounded twice. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army overseas in France and Germany. After the service, he returned to college where he got a law degree at Tulane University.

He was a respected businessman who bought an International Harvester dealership in Tallulah, which he later sold.

Jack is survived by his wife, Grace T. Folk; his children, Jack H. Folk Jr. (Melanie) of Ga., Alice Jacobs (Jesse) of Texas, Sara Jones Cotton (Bill) of Texas, Elizabeth Graham (Sam) of Miss., Ken Barrett (Donna) of La., and Mike Barrett (Melinda) of La.; and other devoted family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Perry Folk; brothers, Jim Folk and Ben P. Folk; sister, Margaret Booth; and daughter, Jo Nell Reed.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 8, at First Baptist Church in Tallulah from 9 to 11 a.m. with graveside services to follow at 11 a.m. at Silver Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Pallbearers will be Bill Querry, George Shepherd, Pat Patrick, Stuart Moberly, Keith Post and Jay Bailey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Dowe, Bubba Nettles, James Steele and Jackie Varner.
