Final preparations under way for annual Old Court House Flea Market

April 22, the streets around the Old Court House Museum will become a shopper’s paradise when vendors set up their booths for The Old Court House Museum Flea Market on Cherry, Jackson and Monroe streets.

The flea market is held twice a year, in the fall and spring. And while there is no charge to tour the selections of arts and crafts along Cherry and Jackson streets and visit the food booths on Monroe Street, the museum charges vendors $60 for space to display their wares. Last year’s spring market drew about 3,000 people.

“The flea market benefits the museum and charitable organizations and churches,” said George “Bubba” Bolm, curator and director at the Old Court House Museum.

The money raised from the fees for booths will be used for general upkeep of the museum, he said, adding, “We’re not dependent on federal or state loans.”

“Things are looking very good,” Bolm said of this year’s spring edition of the flea market. “We have 90 arts and crafts booths and 16 food booths, and we are still getting orders. We will take orders for booths up until April 20. The food booths are sold out.

“Christ Episcopal Church will be here with their meat pies, and there will be other types of food,” he said. “We will also have wooden furniture, handmade knives, woodworking, clothing and jewelry.”

People wanting more information or are interested in renting booth space for the flea market can call the museum at 601-636-0741.
