The operation, which began early Wednesday, involved the Vicksburg Police Department Warren County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Department of Corrections and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.

“The Vicksburg Police Department and assisting agencies are serious about getting drugs off of our city streets and out of this community,” Vicksburg Chief of Police Walter Armstrong said in a statement Wednesday afternoon. “Drugs destroy people, families, relationships, neighborhoods, and the community as a whole.  Young people in the community need to know that dealing drugs is not the way to go through life.

Those arrested Wednesday included:

  • Frederick Allen, 26, sell of marijuana
  • Bobby Taylor, 45, sell of hydrocodone
  • Brandon Jackson, 26, possession of weapon by felon
  • Cory Johnson, 30, three counts of sell of cocaine
  • Tyrone James, 39, two counts of sell of cocaine
  • Jimmy Gray, 54, sell of cocaine
  • Larry Sykes, 62, four counts of sell of cocaine
  • Amanda Harris, 32, possession of methamphetamine
  • Lawrence Ward, 42, sell of cocaine
  • Lorant Wells, 40, sell of marijuana
  • Sidney Brewer, 33, sell of methamphetamine
  • Leon Bryant, 40, three counts of sell of methamphetamine, possession of firearm by felon
  • Sharon Chambers, 53, sell of hydrocodone

The bulk of the arrests came early Wednesday, with 11 being arrested before 9 a.m. Two others were arrested later in the day.

“The toll that drugs have on a community is disturbing and the citizens of Vicksburg are fed up,” Armstrong said. “We greatly appreciate the citizens taking the initiative to contact law enforcement about drug activity in an effort to help create a safer community.”
