Norvelle Laird Wells

Norvelle Laird Wells died Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at her residence in Slaughter, La. She was 86.

Born in Baton Rouge, she lived most of her life in Natchez where she was an active member of the Morgantown Baptist Church and later lived in Vicksburg for several years before returning to Louisiana. While living in Vicksburg, she was an active member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Lucille Schutzman Laird; her husband, Charles Donald Wells; and her daughter, Mavis Wells Creech.

Survivors include her sons, Chris (Laura) Wells of Vicksburg and Dr. Don Charles (Lynn) Wells Jr. of Longview, Texas; her sisters, Audrey (Eddie) Hall of Slaughter and Alta Rae (Russell) Coates of Zachary; her brother, Kenneth (Kathy) Laird of Pride, La; her grandchildren, Melissa (Ben) Smithhart, Kate Wells and Anna (Julian) Galvis; and great-grandchildren, Carter Smithhart, Riley Ann Smithhart, Cecilia Galvis and Vivienne Galvis.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 15, at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Vicksburg with the Rev. Kent Campbell officiating.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at the East Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Amite Co.

Pallbearers will be Paul Banchetti, Bobby Smithhart, Richard Schmitt, Richard Schmitt II, Tommy Wilkinson and Wayne Henderson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Oxford, Clifton Hall, Maitland Hall, Dale Wesley and Cecil Hollowell.
