She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Brown Sr.; her mother, Alice “Lila” Burke; her stepfather, John Henry Burke; and by her siblings, Randolph “Randy” Burke, Delores S. Beals (Dosie Beals), Willie G. Brown Jr. and Jewel Brown.

Raised in a Christian home, she confessed her hope in Christ at an early age. In that same home, she learned the value of hard work and independence, and carried those lessons into her adult life.  Her work ethic and honesty made her a trusted employee and beloved friend of her employers until her retirement.

She lived her entire life as a model of service to family.  Though she never had children of her own, she was a second “momma” to her nephews, Anthony “Tony” Brown and Earl P. Burke, as if they were her own sons. Through them, she touched the lives of all the neighborhood children of Marcus Bottom.

In retirement, she continued to be a faithful caretaker to her mother and stepfather until they departed to their final rest, and in like fashion, she was cared for by her family until she departed this life April 11, 2017 at 9:45 a.m.

She leaves to cherish her memory brothers and sisters, Geraldine Brown, John H. Brown, Theresa I. Burke, John C. Burke and Lamont C. Burke; stepsister, Janie B. Haggins; adopted sons, Earl P. Burke and Anthony “Tony” Brown.

She will be mourned and remembered by a great many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
