Field of Faith worship service is Wednesday

Commitment and leadership demonstrated by youth are powerful to witness.

Sometimes this type of conduct is displayed during sporting events and then there are other times when these budding adults literally step up to the plate of life and go the extra mile with their faith.

This is the case for local students who participate in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes ministry at their respective schools, and on Wednesday Warren Central High School’s FCA members will hold a worship service at Viking Stadium, 1000 Highway 27.

The event is in conjunction with the Fields of Faith movement, which is a concept, demonstrated through the FCA ministry, WCHS FCA sponsor Matthew Williams said.

In the fall, St. Aloysius High School sponsored an event and those who participated gave personal testimonies.

Williams said his students wanted to offer something different and have invited Jeremy Tillman from Williamsville Baptist Church in Kosciusko and the Williamsville Baptist Church praise band to perform.

Tillman will lead the service, Williams said and the praise band will perform contemporary Christian music.

A love offering will also be taken up during the service and will be given to a local charity.

Williams said the worship service was coordinated and planned out entirely by the FCA leadership team.

Six members serve on the team, he said with Sara Kate Smith serving as the group’s president.

The high school senior said being a member of FCA helps remind students that they are not just playing for themselves, but are playing for God.”

She also credited Williams for WCHS’s FCA growth.

Two years ago, there were only about 20 students who participated, she said and now the group has grown to more than 120.

“It has meant a lot to know that we actually have someone at the school that cares about us as Christians and as athletes,” Smith said, and added, “It’s also really cool to know that that many people out there are trying to become closer with the Lord.”

The community wide worship service will begin at 6 p.m. Williams said, and everyone is invited.

Terri Frazier was born in Cleveland. Shortly afterward, the family moved to Vicksburg. She is a part-time reporter at The Vicksburg Post and is the editor of the Vicksburg Living Magazine, which has been awarded First Place by the Mississippi Press Association. She has also been the recipient of a First Place award in the MPA’s Better Newspaper Contest’s editorial division for the “Best Feature Story.”

Terri graduated from Warren Central High School and Mississippi State University where she received a bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis in public relations.

Prior to coming to work at The Post a little more than 10 years ago, she did some freelancing at the Jackson Free Press. But for most of her life, she enjoyed being a full-time stay at home mom.

Terri is a member of the Crawford Street United Methodist Church. She is a lifetime member of the Vicksburg Junior Auxiliary and is a past member of the Sampler Antique Club and Town and Country Garden Club. She is married to Dr. Walter Frazier.

“From staying informed with local governmental issues to hearing the stories of its people, a hometown newspaper is vital to a community. I have felt privileged to be part of a dedicated team at The Post throughout my tenure and hope that with theirs and with local support, I will be able to continue to grow and hone in on my skills as I help share the stories in Vicksburg. When asked what I like most about my job, my answer is always ‘the people.’
