While this school year is ongoing and will end in a few weeks, eyes are already turning toward next year.
The Vicksburg-Warren School district will start its 2017-18 school year on Aug. 10, and end May 24, 2018.
Graduation for Vicksburg High School will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018. Warren Central will hold graduation Friday, May 25, 2018.
For students at Vicksburg Catholic School, the 2017-18 school year will run from Aug. 8 through May 25, 2018 with graduation being held May 26.
Both school calendars feature 180 days of class per state guideline. The public school calendar also requires seven additional workdays for teachers.
Christi Kilroy, the communication director for VWSD, said they work to build a “common sense” schedule, while meeting the state requirements.
“We build the calendar based on all of the information we have available to us so that we can best accomplish the district’s goal of graduating all students college, career and life prepared,” Christy Kilroy said.
She added the school system also works around the state testing dates and makes sure that students are in the classroom learning in the days and weeks leading up to the tests so that they are adequately prepared.
Students from VSWD and Vicksburg Catholic Schools will have spring break March 12-16, 2018. They will all also receive Good Friday, which falls on March 30, and the Monday after Easter, April 2, off from school.
The Christmas break for VWSD will be slightly shorter in the 2017-18 school year.
The break will start Monday, Dec. 25 and school will resume Monday, Jan. 8, 2018.
The break for Vicksburg Catholic School will start Friday, Dec. 22, 2018 and school will resume Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018.
Officials at Porters Chapel Academy, said their 2017-2018 school calendar has not been finalized.
