Sons of Confederate Veterans hosting observance Sunday

The John C. Pemberton Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans will host the 2017 statewide Confederate Memorial Day observance Sunday at 2 p.m. at Soldier’s Rest in Cedarhill Cemetery.

Keynote speakers for the event are Mary Landin, president of the Vicksburg No. 77 Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Trent Lewis, 3rd Brigade councilman with the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

There will also be a wreath laying ceremony, singing and the playing of Taps.

The ceremony is open to the public. People attending should dress in either period costumes or church attire.
