Charles A Smith Jr.

Charles A Smith Jr. passed away Sunday, April 23, at University Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was 62. 

He was a self-employed carpenter, and was a member of the St. James M. B Church and the Carpenter’s union.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Andrew and Lee Dora Smith Sr.; his four brothers, Ananias Smith, Robert Smith, Otis Smith and Eugene Smith; his sister, Gloriastine Smith Thomas; and his daughter, Trisha Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Hope Calvin Smith of Vicksburg; six sons, DeWayne (Leslie) Powers, Darren Powers, both of Vicksburg, Tavares Smith of Las Vegas, Technical Sgt. Charles A (Vanessa) Smith III, U.S.A.F., Chavez Smith, Tre’Darius Smith, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, La’Kendra Smith and Andrea Smith of Seattle; five sisters, Dorothy Hargrove of California, Mary Moore, Sandra Williams, Caroline Jenkins and Erma Smith; 13 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 28, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
