As of Monday morning, a majority of the Port of Vicksburg remained without power.

According to Pablo Diaz, port director, an estimated 15 to 20 percent of the port had power restored by 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

“Several power poles were downed by the storms, but the majority of them have been replaced or will be replaced by Entergy in the following hours,” Diaz said Sunday night. “Entergy crews have been working non-stop and will continue working until power is restored.”

Even though most of the port is without power, Diaz said he does not expect operation of the port to be halted.

“In terms of basic operations at the port facility, we count on generators to accomplish what is needed while Entergy finishes repairs,” he said. “I have been in close communication with Watco and we do not anticipate the power outage to substantially affect or slow down port operations or shipments.”

Entergy’s Sheila McKinnis said the area of the port, and areas around North Washington were the hardest hit in Sunday’s storms.

As of Monday morning, Entergy had 626 customers remaining to be restored, half of which McKinnis expected would be restored by lunch. The rest were expected to be restored by Monday evening.

“At the peak of the storm, which was 9 a.m. Sunday, we had 3,120 without power in Warren County,” McKinnis said. “Right now, we have 32 cases pending and more than 20 teams out there right now working.”
