Ada Frances Halford

MERIDIAN — Ada Frances Halford passed away April 29, 2017, at Traceway Retirement Center in Tupelo.  She was 95.

Services will be held at Central Baptist Church May 4, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. in Meridian, with the Rev. Mike Russell officiating. 

Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Meridian with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

She was born in Meridian Sept. 8, 1921, to George and Mattie Buie.  She was a 1939 graduate of Meridian High School.

She was a homemaker, who lived most of her life in Meridian before moving to Tupelo to be cared for by her daughter, Cindy Gaines. She was a lifelong member of the Southside Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for ages pre-school through young adult, adult choir member and was active in the mission’s organization, WMU.

Once she moved to Tupelo, she attended Calvary Baptist Church. She was a charter member of Ben Arthur Davis Garden Club and PTA at her children’s school. She enjoyed music, gardening, travel and activities with her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Mattie Buie; her husband, Lloyd Joiner Halford; and infant son, Lloyd Joiner Halford Jr.

She is survived by five children and their respective spouses, George and Gloria Halford of Cookeville, Tenn., Frances and Doug Hassell of Vicksburg, Bobby and Kathy Halford of Hattiesburg, Jim and Kim Halford of Madison and Cindy and Robert Gaines of Tupelo; grandchildren, Zachary Halford, Barry Hassell, Bill Hassell, Beth Hassell Thompson, Kelly Bates, Leslie Elliott, Brittany Olafson, Lori Stogner, Michael Halford, Hannah Halford, Madeline Halford, Anna Margaret Gaines and Rebecca Steinman; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Halford, Barry Hassell, Bill Hassell, William Bates, Kevin Steinman, David Olafson, Josh Stogner, Justin Elliott and Zachary Halford.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Gibson, Jerry Pope and Jimmy Smithey.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers of Martin House at Traceway Retirement Center in Tupelo for the loving and devoted care given to their mother.
