Please, let me tell you about need, and faith and success.

As dean of the Vicksburg-Warren Campus of Hinds Community College for three years, I see all of these human characteristics in students every day. I see a need for education, a need for training, a need for confidence-building and a need for success.

Along with that need for success, I now see faith, not the kind we have in our souls, not the kind we get at church or from our higher power, but the kind the current Warren County Board of Supervisors has shown in our campus, in our college and, most importantly, in our students.

Along with other supervisors across Central Mississippi, the Warren County Board has worked diligently to bring industry to the area, meanwhile satisfying the needs of current employers. Now the local supervisors have carried their workload to a new level by showing faith in Hinds Community College Vicksburg-Warren Campus.

The five supervisors, elected by you to serve, have placed not only their faith but also their trust in the Hinds Vicksburg-Warren Campus, which already enrolls about 3,000 students each year in academic and technical classes.

They have agreed to spend your money to ensure that the students of today can be the qualified workers of tomorrow. They have agreed to pay the bulk of the cost of constructing a much-needed new building on our campus on Highway 27.

The need for the 40,000-square-foot building comes with the announcement by Continental Tire that it will employ thousands of workers at a $1 billion plant being built between Bolton and Clinton. That, as you know, translates into jobs for all of Central Mississippi, including Warren County. Hinds’ charge is to provide as many of the employees as possible.

The supervisors recognize that we as a community we must show support to a company that offers us the hope of filling its needs with our skilled workers. The supervisors have shown faith that we at Hinds can train these people.

That faith, translated into money for a building for training, can lead to only one outcome and that is success.

As dean of Hinds in Vicksburg, I thank each and every member of the Warren County Board of Supervisors for being forward-thinking so our needs and our faith can turn into the entire community’s success.
