Kings basketball weekend

The Kings Empowerment Center will host the “Basketballers’ Weekend” May 19-21. The event starts with a 3-point shootout on May 19 at 6:30 p.m., and continues with an adult basketball tournament May 20 beginning at 10 a.m.

The entry fee for the 3-point contest is $3 per person, and the winner will receive a trophy. Admission is free for spectators.

The tournament is for teams with players ages 19-and-up, and the entry fee is $125 per team. The registration deadline is May 15. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and admission for fans is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 18.

There will also be a 3-on-3, single elimination tournament on May 21 with three age divisions — fifth through eighth grade, ninth through 12th, and ages 19-and-up. The entry fee for this tournament is $15 per team. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., games start at 4 p.m., and admission is free.

Gator Bait Triathlon

Registration is open for the 2017 Gator Bait at Eagle Lake Endurance Challenge. The race is scheduled for May 13 at Eagle Lake and features an Olympic distance and sprint triathlon. The Olympic distance triathlon includes a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-kilometer bike ride and 10K run. The sprint triathlon is a 1/3-mile swim, 14-mile bike and 5K (3.1-mile) run.

There is also an Olympic distance relay division and open water swim events at seven different distances.
All participants must be registered with USA Triathlon. One-day registrations are available for $12. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m., and there is a mandatory pre-race meeting at 8:15. Registration is capped at 250 participants and the deadline to enter is May 10. For more information or to register online, visit vsaswim.org

Tomahawk Tromp at Tara

The fourth annual Tomahawk Tromp will be held at Tara Wildlife on May 13, beginning at 8 a.m. The 5K off-road trail run is an adventure race that includes stations where participants must perform various outdoor activities.

The registration fee is $30 for adults and $20 for children ages 10-17, and online registration is at tarawildlife.com.

WC baseball tryouts

Tryouts for Warren Central’s baseball team will be held May 15 and 16, at 5 p.m. each day, at Viking Field. Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. on May 15. Tryouts are open to students who will be in grades 8-12 in the 2017-18 school year. All players must have a current physical, cleats and a glove. They must also fill out concussion and participation forms prior to the tryouts.

Clear Creek Ladies report

Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association members met on Wednesday for individual stroke play. The Flight A winner was Joyce Johnson. The Flight B winner was Connie Kegerreis, while Mary May won Flight C. Johnson logged the lowest putting score. Johnson, Kegerreis and Emily Bonelli made chip-ins.
